Make Rompope Horchata—Guatemalan Eggnog

You’ll need:
1 quart whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 can condensed milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 cup finely ground almonds or almond meal
8 egg yolks
11/4 cups light rum
Here’s how:
1. Combine the milk, sugar, condensed milk, vanilla, cinnamon stick and ground almonds in a large saucepan. Over medium heat, bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring constantly, for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, and cool to room temperature.
2. Beat the egg yolks until thick and lemony in color. Remove the cinnamon stick, and gradually whisk in the egg yolks. Return to low heat, stirring constantly, cook until mixture coats a spoon. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely.
3. Add the rum, stir well. Transfer to a container and and cover tightly. Refrigerate for 1 or 2 days before serving. Makes 1-1/2 quarts.
Prep time: 10 minutes; Cooking time: 35 minutes; Total time: 45 minutes

October is National Clergy Appreciation Month, and we want to take the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our neighbor, the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Mt. Airy, PA.

Avenida is open for lunch! Tuesday-Friday 11:30am-2pm.
The menu consists of soups, salads, and gourmet Latin sandwiches. Lunch can enjoyed in the dining room, on the patio, or as take-out.

We introduce Cena Completa, family-style dinners that feed four, featuring an entree and two sides for one low cost.
